About

I’m an international development professional with years of experience in project management and communications specifically in the fields of human rights, migration, and sustainable development. My career has taken me from New York to Kabul and now back to Washington, DC.

My areas of expertise are: Human Rights, Muslims, LGBTQ folks, refugees and immigrants, Afghanistan, Afghan-Americans, and the intersections between them. I’m available for comment on these issues and can be reached via email: bilalaskaryar {@} gmail.com

I have been published on NPR: ‘We Weren’t Looking For A Better Life, We Were Just Looking For Life’ and Slate: The Muslim Ban is Working. I’ve been interviewed by  The Fader and Vice.

I was on BFF radio with @burritojustice to talk about my experience living and working in Afghanistan.
